Welcome to 6A
Teacher – Miss Anthoney
Teaching assistant – Miss Clifton and Mrs Panesar
Welcome to the new school year! We would just like to take the opportunity to welcome you formally and tell you a little about the learning and routines for 6A and 6M. As you are aware this half term our topic theme is The Ancient Greeks. Using Greek Myths, we will be exploring narrative structure in Literacy. In History and Geography we will be looking at location, climate and terrain of Greece and the History will focus on the contributions of the Ancient Greeks and their legacy. All these lessons are taught in mixed ability groups with differentiated activities according to age and ability. Maths, RE and ICT are still taught as separate subjects. In order to support your child please take the opportunity to visit the library and research on the internet for extra information and do lots of reading about the topic. Well done to all those who have already.
Your child will be involved in formal assessment in the form of SATs, we try to make this as stress free as possible with commitment from ourselves, the children and you the parents, we can strive to fulfil each child’s potential. As stated at our meeting there will be changes to the SAT’S tests this year, we will keep you informed. There will also be Booster Classes in both Maths and Literacy, where children will be invited to attend once we have assessed what help is needed. In support of this please work with your child to ensure that they know all their multiplication tables and division facts, as this is a big boost in helping to learn more difficult concepts in Maths.
PE is an essential part of the curriculum; please ensure your child has their PE kit in school. 6A and 6M will be having PE on Thursday.
Homework is an important part of your child’s learning and is an opportunity for you to get involved in their school work. Please make sure your child is completing the tasks, and if you are helping them please could you make a note on the homework.
All literacy based homework will be given out on Tuesday and needs to be returned for the following Friday.
Mental Maths homework will be given out on Friday and will need to be returned on Tuesday.
Even though at this stage your child will becoming a competent reader, it is still important that your child reads regularly, both alone and to an adult, please sign the reading records to support this. Reading regularly improves fluency and accuracy and develops good comprehension skills.
Extra homework may be given on other days, but the children will have clear instructions and return dates.
