Class 6A

Welcome to 6A

Teacher – Miss Anthoney

Teaching assistant – Mrs Casey

Our topic after half term is ‘Mexico’.

The areas we will be covering are:

  • The location of Mexico
  • Famous landmarks
  • The Aztecs and chocolate
  • The Day of the Dead
  • Mexican folktales

We would like your child to research our new topic and display their information in a creative way. Please help your child with this project and take the time to visit the library to borrow some books about Mexico and its history.

Mexican Madness!- date to be confirmed

The children are invited to dress in Mexican clothes or wear the colours of the Mexican flag (green, white and red). During this day, the children will be tasting different Mexican food and dancing to Mexican music!

Raising Standards

Your child will be involved in formal assessment in the form of SATs, we try to make this as stress free as possible with commitment from ourselves, the children and you the parents, we can strive to fulfil each child’s potential. As stated at our meeting there will be changes to the SAT’S tests this year, we will keep you informed. In support of this please work with your child to ensure that they know all their multiplication tables and division facts, as this is a big boost in helping to learn more difficult concepts in Maths.

PE Arrangements

PE is an essential part of the curriculum; please ensure your child has their PE kit in school. 6A and 6M will be having PE on Friday.

Homework is an important part of your child’s learning and is an opportunity for you to get involved in their school work. Please make sure your child is completing the tasks, and if you are helping them please could you make a note on the homework.

All literacy based homework will be given out on Wednesday and needs to be returned for the following Monday.

Mental Maths homework will be given out on Thursday and will need to be returned on Tuesday.

Even though at this stage your child will becoming a competent reader, it is still important that your child reads regularly, both alone and to an adult, please sign the reading records to support this. Reading regularly improves fluency and accuracy and develops good comprehension skills.

Extra homework may be given on other days, but the children will have clear instructions and return dates.

Booster Classes

To prepare children for their SAT’s tests children are invited to attend booster classes in the morning before school. Please ensure your child attends on time and brings the appropriate homework/resources. Thank you to those parents who have returned reply slips. As discussed in our parent’s consultation meetings, it is so important that we work together as a team. Please do not hesitate to speak to me for further information.
