Class 6A

Welcome to 6A

Teacher – Miss Anthoney

Teaching assistant – Miss Clifton and Mrs Panesar

We will be learning about the following during Literacy:

  • Report writing
  • Persuasive arguments
  • Balanced arguments

The areas we will be covering are:

  • Layers of a Rainforest
  • Locations of Rainforests
  • Animals found in Rainforests
  • Deforestation
  • Climate of Rainforests

To help us with this topic we would like you to:

  • Take your child to the library and find books about Rainforests.
  • Explore Kew Gardens website.

Help your child to write some information about Rainforests. This needs to be presented in an A4 poster or a leaflet. This will be due back on Tuesday 31st October.

Raising Standards

Your child will be involved in formal assessment in the form of SATs, we try to make this as stress free as possible with commitment from ourselves, the children and you the parents, we can strive to fulfil each child’s potential. As stated at our meeting there will be changes to the SAT’S tests this year, we will keep you informed. There will also be Booster Classes in both Maths and Literacy, where children will be invited to attend once we have assessed what help is needed. In support of this please work with your child to ensure that they know all their multiplication tables and division facts, as this is a big boost in helping to learn more difficult concepts in Maths.

PE Arrangements

PE is an essential part of the curriculum; please ensure your child has their PE kit in school. 6A and 6M will be having PE on Thursday.

Homework is an important part of your child’s learning and is an opportunity for you to get involved in their school work. Please make sure your child is completing the tasks, and if you are helping them please could you make a note on the homework.

All literacy based homework will be given out on Tuesday and needs to be returned for the following Friday.

Mental Maths homework will be given out on Friday and will need to be returned on Tuesday.

Even though at this stage your child will becoming a competent reader, it is still important that your child reads regularly, both alone and to an adult, please sign the reading records to support this. Reading regularly improves fluency and accuracy and develops good comprehension skills.

Extra homework may be given on other days, but the children will have clear instructions and return dates.
