Working in groups of two or three; the children were given one of the Beatitudes, choosing a scenario appropriate for the statement and dramatised someone fulfilling the Beatitude and someone acting contrary to Jesus’ teaching.

We then had a class discussion after each role-play on how our decisions are informed by our beliefs.

The Beatitudes we role-played:

  • You will be blessed when you have an open and generous heart.
  • You will be blessed when you reach out to those who grieve.
  • You will be blessed when you are gentle.
  • You will be blessed when you work for justice.
  • You will be blessed when you forgive others and don’t hold grudges.
  • You will be blessed when you desire what is good.
  • You will be blessed when you are a peacemaker.
  • You will be blessed when you are made fun of for doing what God wants.
