Celebration of the Word

• R.E leaders from each class lead the Wednesday Word Gospel reflection for their class on Wednesday mornings.
• At the end of the school week, the whole school comes together in Celebration of the Word Assembly lead by the Headteacher or senior staff.
• Class based, staff/pupil led, Celebration of the Word (collective worship) takes place on Tuesday and Thursday

Class Celebration of the Word (Assemblies & Themes)

• During our school year, each class prepares an assembly that parents are warmly encouraged to attend, as this promotes community spirit, the sharing of the talents that God has given us and the children’s achievements.

• We take the themes of our assemblies from the Catholic faith, and we observe the festivals and mark the events of the Liturgical year. 

 

Prayer at St Peter's School 

At St Peter’s, Prayer and Liturgy is integral to developing the children’s relationship with Christ. Gospel values are embedded in all that we do with Christ at the centre. Prayer and Liturgy is central to our Catholic ethos and we expect all staff to lead and model good practice in prayer. It provides an opportunity for all to reflect on God’s word and to celebrate and respond to the beliefs and attitudes, which characterise Christian life.

 

At St Peter’s we strive to provide a rich variety of prayer and assemblies, which will deepen the pupil’s sense of belonging to the faith community of our school and to the wider church. Children take an active role in planning, leading and evaluating Prayer and Liturgy. We believe worship remembers and celebrates God’s work in our lives. It celebrates His presence amongst us today and allows children and staff the opportunity to be joined with Him.

 

In our school, Prayer and Liturgy takes many forms including prayer, song, assemblies, meditation and liturgies. We strive to provide many opportunities for the children to develop their relationship with God. Children are encouraged to meditate and reflect deeply on the Gospel Values and carefully consider how these will impact on their lives and the lives of others.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel

Angel sent by God to guide me,
be my light and walk beside me;
be my guardian and protect me;
on the paths of life direct me.

Eternal Rest

Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon them.

The Angelus

The Magnificat

My soul glorifies the Lord,

Benedictus

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty saviour,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful,
and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.

O God, who has taught the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that by the gift of that same Spirit

Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church,
the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Masses

• Whole School Masses are celebrated on Holy Days of Obligation and special Feast Days and Celebrations. 
• Masses are celebrated in The Parish Church of St Peter's(opposite the school). 
• Our children also join the parish community for early morning masses (Friday) before school.
• Seasonal celebrations and school events are also celebrated in the Parish Church.
• The First Communion preparation is Parish based and the whole community takes part in the First Holy Communion celebration.
• A service for the Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered by our priests in the Church for years 4, 5 and 6 during Advent and Lent. Children in Reception to Year 3 also attend but do not take part in the sacrament.
